I'm a freelance journalist based in Toronto, Canada. I write about science, animals, history and the future for places like Smithsonian.com, Hakai Magazine and Canadian Wildlife.
Before this, I did a Master of Journalism at Ryerson University, also located in Toronto. I was the 2016 editor of The Ryerson Review of Journalism. Before that, I sold yarn for a year, and before that, I did a history degree at the University of Victoria.
When not perpetrating journalism, I can be found going to review cinemas, hoofing it around Toronto's environs, knitting, canning and reading. For the freshest Kat content, check out my Twitter. You can also email me at kat.eschner[at]gmail.com.
